Withdrawals from All Subjects (WAS) & Multiple Withdrawals from All Subjects (MWAS)

Admitted Business majors who wish to withdraw from all courses after the first week of the term must complete IUB’s “withdrawal from all subjects" (WAS) process, including submitting the appropriate WAS form. Additional policies apply to students who have completed multiple withdrawals from all subjects (MWAS).  See below for further details on both of these areas.

Withdrawals from All Subjects (WAS)

The WAS process removes the student from ALL classes in the current academic term. Students seeking a WAS should first review the Student Central page on What to know about withdrawing from IU

Per IU policy, international students begin the WAS process with the IU Office of International Services (OIS), and all other students begin with the IU Student Advocates Office.

In addition to completing the appropriate Withdrawal from All Subjects form with the relevant administrative office (OIS or Student Advocates), students are also responsible for completing the additional relevant forms, as applicable (e.g. Kelley Leave of Absence, Permanent IU Withdrawal, canceling an IU housing or dining contract). More information on the Kelley Leave of Absence process can be found in the Leave of Absence and Permanent IU Withdrawal policy in this bulletin.

Given the impact of a WAS on degree progress, it is also recommended for a student who is considering a WAS to consult with Kelley Academic Advising beforehand.

Multiple Withdrawals from All Subjects (MWAS)

Students have the ability to perform a WAS in more than one term. Per IU policy, students who withdraw from all courses in any two terms, including summer, will be required to submit a petition to resume their studies. Admitted Kelley students should contact Kelley Academic Advising (busadv@iu.edu) to begin this process. Petitions will be reviewed by a committee to ensure students are ready to successfully continue as a Kelley School of Business student.

I-Core Semester

Students considering a total withdrawal in their I-Core semester need to review the information in the I-Core Drops and Withdrawals policy in this bulletin.

Pre-Business Students

Pre-Business students who are withdrawing from all subjects need to inform Kelley Admissions by contacting bschool@iu.edu. Pre-Business students who want to petition to resume their studies after multiple withdrawals from all subjects should contact Advising & Major Exploration Services (AMES) regarding next steps.
